Brow Lift

A subtle
lift with big impact

If your eyes are windows to your soul, your eyebrows are the frame of your face.

Brow Forehead Lift

If your eyes are windows to your soul, your eyebrows are the frame of your face. Beautiful eyebrows also are an important part of your sculpted face. But with age and time, the eyebrows also get affected and the brows move down. The distance between the brows and eyelashes shortens as skin and soft tissues lose elasticity. This drooping of brows with effect of age and gravity is called as Brow ptosis. This ptosis of the eyebrows makes you look tired, sad and sometimes angry. So, with Brow lift you can raise your brow which gives you a more pleasant and refreshed appearance.

Brow Forehead Lift

Brows Lift also known as forehead lift, is a surgical procedure which is used to reduce the fine lines and wrinkles which are present horizontally on the forehead. It also places the brows in position which because of ptosis have sunkendown towards the eyelashes. So, this process should be considered if you have low or sagging brows which further leads to sagging upper eyelids.

Brow ptosis or brow sagging can be of two types depending on the area involved:

  • Medial brow ptosis.
  • Lateral Brow ptosis.

The procedure will depend on the type of your brow ptosis which will be assessed after your consultation with Dr Amit Agarwal Medial brow sagging is treated more appropriately by injecting botox in the hyperactive brow muscles and lateral brow ptosis is treated by brow lift surgery.

Brow lift can treat

  • Brow ptosis
  • The wrinkles and the fine lines present on the forehead.
  • The wrinkles present on the bridge of the nose, between the eyes.
  • It usually paces the brows in the correct position and gives your face a youthful and rejuvenated look.
  • It also corrects and improves the fine lines which are present between the brows.
  • It also places the sagging brows in their correct position which are hooding the upper eyelids.

Brow lift is a procedure which can also be performed in combination of the other surgeries such as

  • Face lift
  • Blepharoplasty
  • Fat grafting to different areas of the face.
  • Sometimes with skin resurfacing techniques.

Brow Lift procedure includes

Brow lift surgery procedure depends on the type of brow ptosis involved.Brow Forehead Lift

Medial Brow Lift : Medial brow ptosis is treated effectively by injecting Botox directed to the Glabellar complex which includes the Procerus and Corrugator muscles. These injections will relax these muscles which are responsible for pulling the brows down at the medial region.

Lateral Brow Lift : for lateral brow ptosis. This surgery is routinely performed under general anaesthesia but can be done under Local Anaesthesia also. In this procedure, a 3-5 cm incision is made in the temple hair bearing area of the scalp. Then the dissection is done towards the eyebrow and eyebrow is engaged with sutures. With these sutures, eyebrow is lifted upwards and sutured in optimum position. The incision is closed with the help of sutures and with skin glue. This incision is well hidden under the hairline. Excess skin is present for 1-2 months around the incision which gradually normalises with time.

Recovery after the surgery

After the botox injection for medial brow lift, you can go home immediately. You will be advised to follow specific instructions after the procedure. Please follow them. The effect can be visible 7-10 days after the procedure and will usually last for 6 months.

After the lateral brow lift surgery, the forehead will be covered with a bandage or will be loosely wrapped to reduce the swelling and bruising to the minimal. The sutures will be removed after a week of the surgery. You can be discharged on the same day or next day after surgery. We may place a thin tube to drain any excess fluid or blood which may collect under the skin which would be removed in 2 days if placed.

  • There can be swelling and bruising of the temple region which usually subsides in a week.
  • Sutures are non-absorbable, they would be removed after a week. Dr Amit Agarwal does not prefer to be use absorbable sutures for brow lift surgery. But on request, absorbable sutures can be placed which does not require to be taken off
  • In the days following surgery, there will be pain which can be subsided by the pain killers given by Dr Amit Agarwal.
  • There should be no vigorous exercises after the surgery until the surgeon recommends. Always keep your head elevated over pillows while lying down on bed or preferably by placing a folded mattress or quilt under the bedding. Ice fomentation can be done.
  • Soreness might last for few weeks.
  • You will be made to walk few hours post-surgery or the very following day, depending on your will and wish.
  • You can start exercising after four to six weeks post-surgery.
  • You can return to work depending on your will power and the type of work required between 2 -3 days.
