Dos & Don'ts of Plastic Surgery

A clear, honest guide to what to do — and what to avoid — before and after your procedure. Following these guidelines will help you heal faster, feel calmer through recovery, and reach the result you and your surgeon planned together.

General advice

Before and after your surgery

These apply to most procedures we perform at Kayakriti. Your surgeon will also share a personalised list during your consultation.

Do

  • Be realistic about your expectations after surgery.
  • Maintain a healthy weight before your procedure.
  • Listen carefully to your surgeon about precautions before and after surgery.
  • Wait at least six months before judging your final result.
  • Plan time off after surgery before returning to work.
  • Arrange a caretaker for the first 24 hours after surgery or discharge.
  • Share every fear and concern openly with your doctor.

Don't

  • Make your surgery decision based primarily on cost — this is an investment in yourself.
  • Bargain on something that affects your safety and outcome.
  • Stare into the mirror many times a day; results unfold slowly and may take up to six months.
  • Take anti-inflammatory drugs or alcohol in the 48 hours before surgery. Smoking and blood-thinners must stop 2–3 weeks prior.
  • Associate older flaws with the recent surgery.
  • Let other people's opinions distract you during the six-month recovery window.
Pre-operative

Preparations to be done for surgery

What to expect on the day of your procedure, and what we'll ask you to do in the days leading up to it.

  1. Get the tests done that Dr. Amit Agarwal prescribes during your consultation.
  2. Review current medication with your doctor — some may need to be paused.
  3. Stop smoking for at least two weeks before surgery.
  4. Do not take any anti-inflammatory drugs, aspirin, or herbal supplements — they can aggravate bleeding.
  5. Same-day admission at the centre.
  6. A written consent form is explained and signed after admission.
  7. Pre-anaesthetic check-up (PAC) with the anaesthetist if your procedure is under general anaesthesia.
  8. Nil per oral for a minimum of 5–6 hours before the planned procedure.
  9. Surgical markings are done immediately before the procedure.
